Veriground's team installed one its first weather stations in Côte d'Ivoire during 2018 at Grand-Zattry, about 50 km west of Gagnoa. Veriground has been testing stations there since.
Veriground recently proposed moving stations away from Grand-Zattry. Connections to mobile service in that area appear to be weak, which causes that some reports arrive late. When we proposed this to the installers, they protested. They said that the communities there often call them to know if they can go out to tap their rubber trees, or to ask if the time is right for other agricultural work. They rely on forecasts that the Veriground stations make possible.
To meet the local farmers' requests, we have asked the installers to find a new nearby location for the Veriground stations. Mobile connections can be very location sensitive. It is common everywhere today that one often must move a few meters to get a better connection for their mobile. When the installers succeed, the people of Grand-Zattry and the surrounding villages will have even better service.
Veriground's service to smallholder farmers is always free.
